All faculty at the Assistant and Associate level should have a mentor/mentors (1-4 faculty) determined for them soon after they begin their faculty appointment.
- The mentoring group should be mutually agreed upon between the faculty member, the Department Chair and the mentor(s).
- When more than one mentor is assigned, faculty external to the College of Pharmacy can be included based on the menteeās interest, expertise, and mentoring needs
Mentoring is a required and key element of all UF Health Science Center (HSC) academic and professional educational programs and faculty career development plans. Each faculty member should have an individual faculty development plan with stated specific objectives that will be monitored and assessed for continued appropriateness at each formal meeting.
Mentor(s) should meet with their mentee at least once a year, although every 6 months is recommended, to provide advice and counsel the mentee on any and all professional matters, including but not limited to:
- Scholarship
- Procurement of grants, teaching and service as related to departmental expectations for promotion and/or tenure
- Teaching practices and concerns
- Patient Care (when applicable)
- Collegial relations within and outside the department.
- Culture of belonging within the COP and UF
- Balance of personal and professional responsibilities
