Colleges

Gainesville is widely regarded as an academic hub for the entire Southeastern United States. Besides the University of Florida, the city offers top-notch education opportunities in the K-12 and community college levels. Santa Fe College is a unique four-year college specializing in Associate of Arts/Science degrees, as well as offering four-year degrees and training for technical and vocational specialties. The college has been instructing students since 1965, and is accredited by the Committee on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Nearly six hundred faculty and four campus locations in the Gainesville area serve the current enrollment of 28,000+, many of whom are community education or adult education students.

Elementary, Middle and High Schools

The School Board of Alachua County governs the area’s K-12 public schools. With 24 elementary schools, eight middle schools, seven high schools, and seven specialty centers, Alachua County has a current enrollment in excess of 30,000 students. The school board offers magnet programs in business, finance, construction, criminology, culinary arts, health professions, veterinary technology, and International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement studies at area high schools
